Virus Study Group
We focus on sharing knowledge pertaining to virology and promote research on virology among members of the KSCM. Our activities include hosting research workshops as well as surveillance on the current status of diagnosis for viral infections, and establishing guidance for clinical virology. For the missions, the study group is regularly organizing a multicenter study on clinical virology.
Tuberculosis Study Group
- Our goal is to strengthen the diagnostic capabilities of tuberculosis (TB) and nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infection through research and education. Activities include education and training pertaining to the diagnosis of TB and NTM infection as well as conducting collaborative research with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) and other academic societies.
Helicobacter Study Group
- Diagnosis and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of Helicobacter pylori are crucial because H. pylori is well known causative agents of human gastritis, gastric ulcer, and gastric cancer in Korea. Our mission is to contribute in the area of clinical microbiology by conducting and promoting research on H. pylori among KSCM members.
Tropical Medicine Research Group
- Our goal is to strengthen the diagnostic and research capabilities in the area of tropical diseases. The missions of the study group is to educate experts in the diagnosis of parasitic infestation and promote multicenter study on tropical diseases among the KSCM members.
Antimicrobial Resistance Prevalence Surveillance Study Group
- Our goal is to establish and operate a sustainable national antimicrobial resistance monitoring network. We also intend to set up a point prevalence monitoring system, conduct a pilot study targeting 5–10 institutions, and expand the participatory institutions nationwide from 2024.
Study Group for Test Utilization in Clinical Microbiology
- Our goals are to conduct a survey on the utilization and current status of clinical microbiological tests in Korea, to strengthen the capabilities of clinical microbiology laboratories by providing information on the current use of tests, and to advance this study group and clinical microbiology through regular academic meetings.
Blood Culture Study Group
- Optimal diagnosis of sepsis is crucial for the management of sepsis patients. Blood culture is a gold standard for diagnosis of sepsis. We aim to survey the current status of blood culture procedures and to improve the quality of blood culture. We also suggest more rapid and accurate blood culture test according to development of laboratory techniques, such as FilmArray, MALDI-TOF, and direct drug susceptibility test.
Candida Resistance Study Group
- The primary aim of our study group is to prevent the spread of resistant Candida isolates through multi-center surveillance and the early detection of antifungal drug-resistant Candida. We will conduct a survey of resistant Candida isolates and collect strains from multiple institutions throughout Korea, while also exploring the various factors associated with the spread of resistant Candida through our research initiatives.
